LINDEGAARD DELIGHTED AT UNITED

Denmark number 1 Anders Lindegaard is delighted with how his time at Manchester United has gone, though he admits that it has been a difficult first few months.

Lindegaard arrived at Old Trafford in January 2011 (after the Danish season had ended) and has had a few chances to impress in the first team. He’s obviously dismayed that the club went out and bought £20m worth of goalkeeper in David de Gea, but accepts that that is all part and parcel of the competition at a top club like United.

LINDEGAARD MISSES TEAM BUS

Anders lindegaard has risked the fury of Alex Ferguson by missing the team bus. Staff at United’s London hotel, The Landmark, had scheduled post-match drinks and ‘chill-out’ rooms for the players following their 3-1 defeat to Barcelona on Saturday night.

The muted party, attended by around 300 people, went on into the early hours but United’s squad were up and ready to leave the Marylebone Road hotel at noon on Sunday.

Instead of waiting for the Danish goalkeeper, an unimpressed Sir Alex Ferguson told the bus to leave so they could catch their scheduled return to Manchester at 1pm.

LINDEGAARD INJURIED

New Manchester United signing Andreas Lindegaard is injured for the match against Fulham.

Anderson is also back in contention after coming through a reserve run-out unscathed.

Rafael’s knee problem, picked up against Chelsea on Wednesday, is not as bad as first feared, but he will still be missing this weekend.

Owen Hargreaves (shoulder) and Anders Lindegaard (knee) also miss out, while Darren Fletcher is yet to shake off an illness and remains a doubt.

Damien Duff is struggling with an Achilles problem and may be forced to sit out Fulham’s trip to Old Trafford.

LINDEGAARD LOOKINGTO DO BETTER

Anders Lindegaard has said that he is looking to do well in Manchester United colours. The FA Cup fifth-round tie at Old Trafford should have been a game to remember for the keeper as he made his first appearance in front of the Stretford End following his January move to the Reds from Norwegian side Aalesunds.

Instead, the 26-year-old walked off the pitch a relieved man as the Blue Square Bet Premier side almost pulled off what would have been the shock of the century.

“This wasn’t good enough,” Anders Lindegaard said. “We can’t be proud of what we did out there.

CARROLL ADVICES LINDEGAARD

Manchester United new-boy Anders Lindegaard has got advice from ex-United keeper Roy Carroll. It is quite possible Anders Lindegaard would never have ended up at United had Carroll not arrived in Denmark.

His first-team place blocked, Lindegaard moved to Norway, producing a series of stellar performances for Aalesunds that secured him a £3.5million move to Old Trafford.

And, having remained in contact with Carroll, the Northern Ireland international proved to be an invaluable source of advice ahead of his dream move.

“It is an ironic situation I suppose,” reflected Lindegaard.

LINDEGAARD DEAL CONFIRMED

Manchester United have completed the capture of Anders Lindegaard from Aalesunds FK on a three-and-a-half year deal for an undisclosed fee.

The 26-year-old will train with United next month but will not formally join the Red Devils until the transfer window opens in January.

Capped four times by Denmark, Lindegaard’s arrival will inevitably draw comparisons with Peter Schmeichel, who was two years older when he arrived at Old Trafford.

However, Lindegaard is initially seen as a deputy for veteran first-choice Edwin van der Sar, who could retire at the end of the season.

MORE KEEPERS COMING?

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has hinted their goalkeeper search will not end with the signing of Aalesunds No1 Anders Lindegaard.

Ferguson admits he may seek a more established name to replace Edwin van der Sar in the summer.

He said: “We haven’t finalised our thoughts on the goalkeeping situation.

“Edwin has massive experience and you can’t buy that, so it’s a difficult one because he has been a great goalkeeper and will be hard to replace.”
