ANDERS: ITS A DREAM

Manchester United’s new goalkeeping acquisition, Anders Lindegaard is determined not to simply warm the bench (or a seat in one of the Manchester United Hospitality Packages) and to challenge for the number one jersey.

26-year-old Lindegaard joined Manchester United from Swedish side Aalesunds last week and will be available to play from January. A late developer, Lindegaard originally arrived at Aalesunds on loan from Danish side Odense, but impressed so much that they signed him on a three-year deal earlier this year.

Veteran Manchester United goalkeeper Edwin Van Der Sar is set to retire at the end of the season. Old Trafford boss Sir Alex Ferguson has indicated that Lindegaard is not viewed as a replacement and that he will scour the globe for a suitable successor to 40-year-old Van Der Sar.

However, Lindegaard himself has little intention of just making up the numbers at Manchester United and wants to force his way into the first team.

He told VG, “I am not travelling to Manchester to sit on the bench and I feel that I am brought to the club to fight for a place in the starting XI.

“It’s obvious that this is a dream. I have followed them since I was a small boy and my father is a big fan.
