Aaron Lennon reacts to Burnley’s first Premier League win of the season

Burnley attacker Aaron Lennon has revealed his pleasure after the Clarets celebrated their first Premier League win of the campaign. Sean Dyche’s side had come into the game lying in the drop zone with just one point from five matches but they managed to put their dismal start aside as they registered a comfortable 4-0 win over Bournemouth.

During the match, Lennon netted his maiden Premier League goal in the Clarets shirt and he was certainly elated on achieving this feat following the game, he said: “I have been looking forward to this one for so long. It’s been coming and I’m happy for Vids as well. He’s been working so hard to get up to match fitness, so for us both to score was brilliant. We didn’t care how we got it, but to win 4-0 will definitely give us a boost and hopefully we can kick on from now. “It’s just the beginning for us. Now we have to push on.”

Burnley had their best-ever Premier League season during the previous campaign where they secured the seventh position with 54 points and this ensured them a route into the Europa League via the qualification phase. At the time, the Clarets were certainly elated with the achievement but that may have hampered them during the opening stages of the current season where they were burdened with the prospect of regular midweek games.

However, Burnley no longer have to deal with the same concern after they were ousted at the playoff of the Europa League by Olympiakos and they may now place their focus on propping up the league table which they should do with the calibre of players within their squad. Over the past year, Burnley have witnessed the likes of Jack Cork, James Tarkowski and Nick Pope handed their debuts with the England national side and it remains to be seen whether the likes of Ben Mee can make the same breakthrough this term.
